January    Back

So, we press on down to Maggie

to relax............and for some comfort food.

And some holes in the ground. Giant's and Lake Cave.

     Geek.

From capes Naturaliste to Leeuwin a great spot in Autralia.

BIG  Trees.                          We're in Pemberton now.

   up        up        up

We climbed 2 of them           Fun we say!           I was sore for two days

I must admit, on this trip I've fished some of the best spots in Oz, the Seisia jetty, Ningaloo station, Mary River,

Shark Bay, you name it I've fished it. But this has to be

the most excellent fishing spot

   in Australia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They struck the bait as soon as you cast, sometimes even quicker!!!

They were wily buggers but we outsmarted them. Within 5 minutes we had two beauties for

lunch. We could have pulled them out all day but our tummies were grumbling after a long day's extreme fishing!!

What a spot. I'll remember this one.

OK. I'll admit it...I don't know what I'm doing when I go fishing.                                      But it beats the hell out of work!!

The lavender farm and a winery tour........of course, but at 10 in the morning!!!

    A tram ride around Pemberton

On to Walpole via D'Entrceasteaux National Park. Amazing. Some tempting 4wd tracks

but...... .....time is on my mind for the first time in 8 months.

A strange feeling.

Tree top walk. Not scary at all.

Into the pretty town of Albany. I liked this place, cold at night but.

Tondirrup National Park ho-hum.

Whaleworld!!    Whaleworld!!!!!

                Total Geek.

Moving along now. Saved Fitzgerald River, Bremer Bay and more for the next lap. On to Esperance!!!! Crossed the rabbit

proof fence in the middle of nowhere. A passing farmer (pommie! they're everywhere!) told us of an historical aboriginal

water hole just off the road. How they found this place year after year amazes me considering the sameness of the

landscape.

these marron were not as good as crays.

Esperance.                                                                               Time to relax.                                           Some of the beaches.

insert corrected pictures

And a trip to Woody Island.

Cape LeGrand. 56 kms by road or 37 by the beach........guess which way we went.

Hellfire Bay                                                Finally used the boogie board at Lucky Bay.                  Beach sand like castor sugar.

Now we're really in the bush again.             Cape Arid.                                                 Another spectacular part of the country.

No wonder people like to live here.

Ya sure.

rebuilding the old telegraph station                                                   glad it's not me.

The track notes said exactly 100kms of beach before you head up the cliffs and come out at Point Culver. Only got about 5 kms                              into it and the beach got very narrow and sticky. Chickened out....leave it for next time. Take the short cut out. The 80 km track                               took about 5 hours!

Stayed the night at Balladonia roadhouse, too buggered to do more.

Now it really feels like I'm on my way home. Across the Nullarbor.

Will I ever get tired of the W.A. coast?  Not in this life.

  the backpackers   our house

I was a bit disappointed as the real treeless bit doesn't last long. I reckon they should cut down all the trees in sight and                                        really  make it a tourist attraction. But they're already doing that in Queensland aren't they?

       Around Wyalla.

Driving to Adelaide. Ended up staying in Hanhdorf and had a big burger again. Yummy.

forget Steve Irwin and his jumping crocs.............................we got Liz and the jumping ducks

I had different ideas

A number of interesting 'big things' built as a protest against a toxic waste site.

And then it happened. Just a casual drive from Adelaide to Melbourne and ............it happened...............................

through many many    many trials and tribulations,  30,000 kms later.................................................................................................................

I completed one lap of Australia at, fittingly, the Big Koala at Dadswell's Bridge.

What a looooooooong strange trip it's been.  Thank you so much to the people I've met and the

friends I've made.

The End?         I hope not.

Thanks for taking an interest.....stay in touch.

Andrew, Andy, Tags, Hey you, whoever you know me as..................................................................................................THANKS.

............................................................................................................................................................................To be continued.....I'm sure.
